      Forgotten Treasures

Alice Clark “Alice Clark” (1972, Mainstream)

      Soul
I have been obsessed with Alice Clark’s voice going on some time now. Her 1972 self-titled album on Mainstream Records just does everything right for me. Her voice is the perfect mixture of love, pain, longing, and hope.
The best example of this on “Never Did I Stop Loving You”. If the song lasted one second longer than its 2:34 it would force most people to call their 3rd grade boyfriend/girlfriend to confess their undying love for them. This is soul music.

Another favorite is “Don’t You Care” where she asks her love, who may not know they are her love, why they do the things they do. There is something about the way she sings that sound like she is singing them to her love, but only she hears herself. Her internal voice, her soul, is pouring its heart out, but its intended audience doesn’t hear her.

Alice Clark’s voice is simply beautiful. Simply lovely.
